Garmin AXIS GDU 80LX 8-Inch Experimental Landscape Display | 010-04144-00

Garmin AXIS™ GDU 80LX, Unit Only — 8" Experimental Landscape Flight Display brings next-generation primary flight, multifunction and engine indication capability to experimental and homebuilt aircraft in a compact, full-HD format. Part number 010-04144-00 includes an internal GPS receiver for VFR navigation and can operate as a stand-alone PFD or as an additional PFD, MFD or split-screen MFD/EIS display within a compatible AXIS system.

Compact Full-HD Landscape Display

View flight, navigation, mapping, engine and aircraft-system information on an 8" landscape display using Garmin’s full-HD AXIS presentation platform. Its compact horizontal format provides configurable full-screen and split-screen layouts while fitting panels where an 11.6" display may not be practical.

Flexible Experimental Integration

The GDU 80LX does not include an internal IFR navigator, COMM radio, VHF NAV receiver or audio panel. Builders can instead select compatible external navigators, radios and audio equipment based on the aircraft’s mission, available panel space and desired system redundancy.

Touch, Knob And Softkey Control

Operate AXIS through its capacitive touchscreen, two dual-concentric knobs and six bezel softkeys. Context-sensitive menus allow display functions to be managed by touch or tactile input, while the dedicated EMER control provides direct access to supported emergency functions.

Primary Flight, Multifunction And Engine Display Capability

The GDU 80LX can serve as the primary display in a compact experimental panel or as an additional display within a larger AXIS system. In a compatible PFD configuration, it can present attitude, airspeed, altitude, heading, vertical speed, navigation guidance and other flight information supplied by connected sensors and avionics. Multifunction layouts can display moving maps, flight plans, waypoint information, terrain, obstacles and available traffic or weather overlays. When paired with a compatible engine interface and sensors, AXIS can also present engine, electrical, fuel and other aircraft-system information with configurable gauges, alerts, advisories, fuel-computer data and lean-assist functions.

VFR GPS And External Avionics Architecture

The GDU 80LX includes an internal GPS receiver intended for VFR navigation, mapping and position functions. Its internal GPS is not an approved source for instrument approach navigation. A compatible external IFR navigator can be integrated when the aircraft requires approved IFR GPS or conventional VHF NAV guidance. Compatible external COMM, NAV/COMM and audio equipment can also be incorporated according to the planned panel architecture.

Landscape Installation And System Expansion

The GDU 80LX measures approximately 8.00" wide by 5.93" high by 2.83" deep, with approximately 2.15" of installation depth behind the panel face. It uses the same panel cutout and screw points as the Garmin 7" G3X Touch™ display, creating a practical upgrade path for qualifying installations. Experimental AXIS systems can combine compatible 8" landscape, 8" portrait and 11.6" displays, with support for as many as six displays depending on the system configuration.

Not sure this is the right fit for your aircraft?

This listing is for the GDU 80LX landscape display unit only and does not represent a complete AXIS system. External navigator selection, radios, audio equipment, ADAHRS and magnetometer requirements, engine monitoring hardware, autopilot integration, transponder and datalink compatibility, antennas, connector kits, wiring and mounting provisions must be determined for the individual aircraft. Contact Neal Avionics before ordering so we can verify part number 010-04144-00 and help identify the additional components required for your installation.

Streamlined Garmin AXIS experimental aircraft installation

Compact Installation

A Practical G3X Touch Upgrade Path

The GDU 80LX uses the same panel cutout and screw points as the Garmin 7-inch G3X Touch™ display. This familiar footprint can help create a practical upgrade path for qualifying experimental aircraft with an existing Garmin display installation.

Reuse of existing panel openings, mounting provisions, wiring, sensors or other equipment must be confirmed against current Garmin installation documentation.
Garmin AXIS advanced flight and safety capabilities

Situational Awareness and Safety

Expand Awareness as You Build

Depending on connected equipment and configuration, AXIS can provide enhanced synthetic vision, 3D SafeTaxi® airport diagrams, traffic and weather overlays, terrain and obstacle information, Runway Occupancy Awareness, SurfaceWatch™ technology and Smart Glide™ emergency assistance.

These capabilities require the appropriate compatible navigator, sensors, transponder, datalink, autopilot, databases and system configuration.
Garmin AXIS display integrated with external avionics

External Avionics Integration

Choose the Avionics You Want
