Garmin GDL® 51 is a portable SiriusXM® receiver that wirelessly delivers SiriusXM aviation weather and audio entertainment to compatible apps and devices while also supplying GPS position and backup attitude information. It is a practical choice for pilots who want satellite weather coverage and entertainment in a compact, rechargeable unit.

Satellite Weather Coverage

Access SiriusXM aviation weather by ground or air across the continental U.S., its coastal regions and southern Canada. Fast-updating weather products provide detailed information for evaluating changing conditions.

Connected Audio Entertainment

Listen to SiriusXM audio entertainment through a Bluetooth headset or the 3.5 mm stereo port. Garmin Pilot app controls and select Garmin aera devices support volume adjustment and station selection.

Position And Backup Attitude

The built-in GPS receiver provides aircraft position data, while the integrated AHRS supplies backup attitude reference to a compatible display. The attitude information is not intended as a source of attitude information for flight in instrument meteorological conditions.

Flexible Device Connections

GDL® 51 can connect with up to 2 wireless display devices and 2 wired display devices simultaneously. Bluetooth supports Garmin Pilot, ForeFlight Mobile and compatible Garmin aera devices, while the 18-pin connection supports G3X Touch™ flight displays and compatible aera devices through a data/power cable. It can also pair with an aviation headset or audio panel that supports A2DP audio streaming.

Portable Power And Updates

Its built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides a typical operating time of 7 hours. The unit can also remain powered through microUSB or the included 12-volt adapter cable. Weather data can queue while a display device is sleeping or turned off, allowing updates to load automatically when the screen returns on.

Compact Cockpit Capability

The GDL® 51 measures 4.9" x 1.3" x 3.4" (12.44 x 3.30 x 8.64 cm) and weighs 0.75 lbs (0.34 kg). An anti-slip mat is fitted to the bottom of the unit, and external GPS and SiriusXM antennas may be connected when needed. SiriusXM services require a subscription, sold separately.
