Garmin AXIS™ GDU 116BX — 11.6" Experimental Flight Display brings next-generation PFD, MFD and available engine indication capability to experimental and homebuilt aircraft in a large, full-HD glass-cockpit format. Part number 010-03004-00 includes an internal GPS receiver for VFR navigation and is designed to integrate with compatible external IFR navigators, radios, audio panels, engine interfaces, autopilots and other Garmin avionics selected for the aircraft’s custom panel.
View flight, navigation, map, engine and system information on an 11.6" landscape display with 1920 × 1080 full-HD resolution. The configurable AXIS display can operate as a primary flight display, multifunction display or part of a split-screen PFD/MFD/EIS arrangement when paired with the required compatible sensors and system equipment.
The GDU 116BX does not include an internal COMM radio, VHF NAV receiver or audio panel. Instead, builders can select compatible external navigators, panel-mounted or remote radios and audio equipment that match the aircraft’s mission, available panel space and desired level of redundancy.
Operate AXIS through its capacitive touchscreen, two dual concentric knobs and six bezel softkeys. Context-sensitive menus allow display functions to be controlled by touch or through tactile controls, while the dedicated EMER key provides direct access to supported emergency functions.
The GDU 116BX can serve as the center of a configurable Garmin AXIS system for experimental aircraft. When configured as a primary flight display, it can present attitude, airspeed, altitude, heading, air data, navigation guidance and other critical flight information supplied by compatible connected sensors and avionics. Multifunction display layouts can show moving maps, flight plans, waypoint information, terrain, obstacles and available traffic or weather overlays. When paired with a compatible engine interface adapter and sensors, AXIS can also present detailed engine, electrical, fuel and other aircraft-system information with configurable gauges, alerts, advisories, fuel-computer data and lean-assist functions.
The GDU 116BX includes an internal GPS receiver intended for VFR navigation. It can provide position, mapping and VFR flight-plan information within the AXIS environment, but its internal GPS is not an approved source for instrument approach navigation. A compatible external IFR navigator can be integrated when approved IFR GPS navigation or conventional VHF NAV capability is required. Garmin-published experimental panel examples combine the GDU 116BX with external products such as GTN™ Xi navigators, GNC® 355 GPS/COMM units, GTR™ remote radios and GMA™ audio panels.
AXIS allows builders to combine 11.6-inch, 8-inch landscape and 8-inch portrait displays, with support for as many as six displays in compatible experimental-aircraft systems. Garmin experimental examples pair the GDU 116BX with equipment such as the GEA™ 24 engine interface, GFC™ 500X digital autopilot, GTX™ remote transponders, Garmin datalinks and additional flight displays. The 11.6" unit measures approximately 11.00" wide by 7.83" high by 4.28" deep, with approximately 2.48" of installation depth behind the panel face. It also uses the same panel cutout and screw locations as the Garmin 10.6" G3X Touch™ display.

Its modular architecture lets builders select compatible external navigators, radios, audio panels, engine interfaces, autopilots, transponders and datalinks while using AXIS as the central flight-information and system-control environment.

Depending on the connected sensors, engine interface and other system components, the GDU 116BX can support primary flight, multifunction and engine-information presentation.
Present attitude, airspeed, altitude, heading, air data, navigation guidance and additional flight information in a configurable Primary Flight Window. Split-screen layouts can keep mapping, engine or supplemental information visible beside the primary flight view.
Display moving maps, flight plans, waypoint information, terrain, obstacles and available traffic or weather overlays. Full-screen and split-screen layouts let the pilot organize information for each phase of flight.
When paired with a compatible engine interface adapter, sensors and properly configured installation, AXIS can present engine, fuel, electrical and other aircraft-system information with gauges, alerts, advisories, fuel-computer data and lean-assist functions.
The 11.6-inch AXIS format provides a full inch more diagonal display area than the Garmin 10.6-inch G3X Touch™ display. Faster processing supports responsive map panning and zooming, while enhanced graphics provide a clear view of flight and system information.
Modular System Architecture
The GDU 116BX is designed for builders who prefer external navigation, communication and audio equipment. Pair the display with compatible Garmin panel-mounted or remote avionics to create a traditional radio stack, a remotely controlled panel or a combination suited to the available space and mission.

The 11.6-inch AXIS display uses the same panel cutout and screw locations as the Garmin 10.6-inch G3X Touch display. AXIS can also use many existing Garmin sensors and components in qualifying installations, helping simplify the path from an earlier Garmin experimental panel.
