Aircraft Profile

Choose your displays in the panel preview above, then tell us about the aircraft this AXIS system is for. These answers shape the configuration — nothing here locks you in, and our team confirms every detail before quoting.

Installation & aircraft basics

G3X Touch upgrades use different install kits — Garmin: typically, no additional Garmin parts are required to upgrade.

Existing equipment & goals

AXIS integrates with GFC 500; Garmin plans GFC 600 support in a future update. If you're keeping a non-Garmin autopilot, we'll recommend the GI 275 "+AP" standby in Step 2.

Just your intent for now — you'll make the actual engine-monitoring choice in Step 3.

Configure a Garmin AXIS panel for certified aircraft

This Garmin AXIS configurator builds a preliminary flight-display panel configuration for certified aircraft, based on Garmin’s AXIS Build-A-System Guide. It is a planning tool: you select equipment step by step, and Neal Avionics verifies aircraft eligibility, compatibility, and the required installation parts before anything is quoted. Browse related equipment any time in our certified flight displays and certified engine monitoring collections.

The AXIS display lineup

AXIS flight displays are available in several formats. The GDU 116B is the 11.6-inch display; the GDU 116C adds a built-in IFR GPS, COMM radio, and audio panel; and the GDU 116NC adds a built-in IFR GPS, NAV/COMM radio, and audio panel. The 8-inch GDU 80P (portrait) and GDU 80L (landscape) are coming soon. A combination of up to 4 AXIS displays can be installed in a single system, and each display is a full inch larger than G3X Touch while sharing the same panel cutout and mounting points.

What every certified AXIS installation needs

Each AXIS display requires an install kit (with G3X Touch upgrades using dedicated upgrade kits), displays with a built-in IFR GPS require the GA 35S GPS/WAAS antenna, AXIS displays use a kit of system sensors — ADAHRS, magnetometer, and temperature probe — and certified installations require a standby flight instrument such as the Garmin G5 or GI 275. The builder adds the deterministic required parts automatically, with the reason shown for every added line.

AXIS engine monitoring

Adding AXIS engine monitoring connects engine sensors through a GEA engine and airframe interface — the GEA 24B, or the GEA 110 for firewall-forward and engine-compartment installations (the GEA 110 requires an AXIS COMM or NAV/COMM display). Based on your engine details, the builder recommends a 4- or 6-cylinder Lycoming/Continental sensor kit. Additional sensors may be required; Neal Avionics verifies the exact configuration for your engine. See our certified engine monitoring collection.

How the Garmin MSRP estimate works

As you build, the configurator totals Garmin MSRP for your selected equipment and the required parts that come with it. Recommended equipment is listed separately and only joins the total when you add it. Prices quoted are for reference only and subject to change; the actual purchase price is determined by a Garmin authorized dealer. Final configuration and pricing will be verified by Neal Avionics before a quote is issued.

What happens after submission

  1. You submit your preliminary AXIS configuration through the builder.
  2. Neal Avionics reviews your aircraft details and compatibility.
  3. Required parts and interfaces are confirmed for your aircraft.
  4. Installation requirements and location are discussed with you.
  5. Neal Avionics prepares your verified quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Garmin AXIS panel builder?

It is a free online configurator from Neal Avionics for planning a preliminary Garmin AXIS flight-display panel for certified aircraft. You choose displays, flight instruments, engine monitoring, radios, and accessories, see Garmin MSRP reference pricing for the selected equipment, and submit the configuration to Neal Avionics for verification.

Which AXIS displays can I choose?

The builder offers the certified AXIS lineup: the 11.6-inch GDU 116B, the GDU 116C with built-in IFR GPS, COMM radio, and audio panel, and the GDU 116NC with built-in IFR GPS, NAV/COMM radio, and audio panel. The 8-inch GDU 80P and GDU 80L are shown as coming soon and are not yet selectable. Garmin allows a combination of up to 4 AXIS displays in a single system.

Is AXIS approved for my aircraft?

Garmin states that STC approval will be available for hundreds of models of certified Part 23 Class I/II piston singles and twins. Eligibility depends on your specific aircraft — Neal Avionics reviews your aircraft details and confirms eligibility, compatibility, and required parts before preparing a quote.

What equipment does every certified AXIS system need?

Each AXIS display requires an install kit, AXIS displays use a kit of system sensors (ADAHRS, magnetometer, and temperature probe), and AXIS installations in certified aircraft require a standby flight instrument such as the G5 or GI 275. The builder adds required install kits automatically and asks you to choose your sensor kit and standby instrument.

Can I upgrade from a Garmin G3X Touch system to AXIS?

Yes. AXIS displays share the same panel cutout and mounting points as G3X Touch, and AXIS is compatible with most existing G3X Touch sensors and components. Garmin notes that typically no additional Garmin parts are required to upgrade. The builder asks whether you are upgrading and uses the G3X-upgrade install kits; Neal Avionics confirms exactly what your aircraft needs.

Can AXIS include engine monitoring?

Yes. AXIS displays connect to engine sensors through a GEA engine and airframe interface — typically one GEA module per engine. The builder recommends a 4- or 6-cylinder Lycoming/Continental sensor kit based on the engine details you enter; additional sensors may be required, and Neal Avionics verifies the exact sensor configuration for your engine.

What if my selected display already includes a GPS or radio?

The GDU 116C and GDU 116NC include a built-in IFR GPS, radio, and audio panel. The builder marks external navigators, radios, and audio panels that duplicate what your display already provides, so you can make an informed choice — nothing is blocked, and Neal Avionics reviews any overlap before quoting.

Is the displayed total a final quote?

No. The builder shows Garmin MSRP for your selected and required equipment. Prices quoted are for reference only and subject to change; the actual purchase price is determined by a Garmin authorized dealer. Final configuration and pricing will be verified by Neal Avionics before a quote is issued.

What happens after I submit my configuration?

Neal Avionics reviews your aircraft details and preliminary AXIS configuration, confirms compatibility and required parts, discusses installation requirements and location with you, and then prepares a verified quote.
